Make Your Own Pottery Experience

Need something to do in Gatlinburg, TN? Want to learn basic pottery skills from an experienced Smoky Mountain potter? When you sign up for a Make Your Own Pottery class at Fowler’s Clay Works, you’ll be taught the process of wheel throwing and shown how to make your own clay creation.

Dip your toe in the mud with our Make a Pot Experience—the perfect pottery class for beginners! You’ll be shown shown how to make your own small bowl or vase by hand. You then get to make your pottery piece your own by personalizing its height, shape, and surface, and you’ll then choose a final glaze color to finish it off.

From start to finish, the Make a Pot Experience typically lasts 45 minutes to an hour. The pottery class costs $50 per person and covers everything you’ll need, including materials, shipping, and the class itself. When you are finished with your masterpiece, your pottery instructor will take your shipping information and glaze color of choice. Because the firing and finishing process takes time, you won’t be able to take your creation home with you on the same day, but as soon it’s fired and glazed, we’ll ship it to you for no additional charge. You will typically receive your finished piece via USPS about 12 weeks after your class date.

The maximum size of each pottery class is 4 students. If you want to schedule a class for a party larger than 4, please email us directly so we can accommodate you.

Minimum age for this class is 6 years old.

Looking for a deeper dive into the pottery making process? Sign up for our Make a Mug Experience! Start with an instructor-led lesson, then receive a ball of clay to do a practice run. After practice, you’ll be guided in forming your own beverage mug. At the end of the forming process, you can shape a handle blank into the perfect shape for your one-of-a-kind mug.
